Here’s the thing about being a Miami girl: Very few designers get our style. The ones who are homegrown get it because they live it. But those who design outside of Miami, well, they don’t process how palm trees are just a staple in a photo’s background, as well as how they can be in every. single. picture. They don’t comprehend how Miami bleeds color the way the wind blows in most places. Or how we love a big, bold pattern as much as we love dancing the night well into the next day. But then there’s Trina Turk and she, well, she just gets it. It’s as though she herself lives smack in the middle of a cool Art Deco apartment in South Beach. She hails from Cali, which makes her Miami’s distant cousin, but truth be told, we’d like to claim her as our own.
Since I’m a huge fan of her bold style (literally, walking into her Bal Harbour shop sets my inner interior redecorator aflame), I’m thrilled to host the Trina Turk Spring Out Style Event this Thursday, March 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Come out and try on jumpsuits that need to be worn to River Yacht Club while imbibing rose as the sun rises high in the sky.
